Find the right level of editing for you.

My rates are per word and based on industry standards like the EFA; however, they do reflect that I am relatively new to this profession. I typically include a free 5-page sample to give clients an idea of what to expect from my work and to iron out any wrinkles in the process of working together.

Developmental

Developmental editing focuses on big-picture issues like plot, character development, pacing, and tension. At this stage, I typically ignore spelling and grammar issues, because there is often substantial rewriting to be done. Instead of making redlined corrections in the text, I will prepare a writeup of your manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses and give specific suggestions on how to shore up any weak points. Copyediting

Focuses on errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar, but includes light developmental advice. Choose from light, medium, or heavy copyediting based on how in-depth you’d like me to look at the work.

Light (.015 cents/word) - I focus on spelling, punctuation, grammar, and point out options for style choice consistency. I will make a few queries for plot and character consistency.

Medium (.02 cents/word) - Same as the above but with more queries, looking a little deeper into the plot.

Heavy (.025 cents/word) - In addition to all of the above, I will attempt to revise unclear prose without changing your writing style.

Line Editing

Chiefly concerned with smoothing out syntax, this type of editing looks at your manuscript line-by-line. This is usually one of the the last steps before proofreading. (.03 cents/word)

Proofreading

A final polish that catches any missed errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation that may have been missed in previous rounds. After this stage, you should be ready for formatting and publication. (.02 cents/word)

Writer Coaching

Are you confused about when it’s OK to break grammar rules? Need someone to bounce plot ideas off of? Perhaps you’d just like an explanation of how to correctly format dialogue.

My coaching is flexible and depends on what you need. Options include working in person or via video call, where we read through your work together, and I give grammar advice tailored to you and your writing. ($40/hour)
